RMF Magic
RMF Magic allows you to establish a consolidated global view on the performance of your Disk Subsystem, by using a disk-centric approach, simplifying the analysis of the I/O configuration and I/O performance.
Unlike other systems, RMF Magic will automatically consolidate all the records that refer to a particular Disk Subsystem. This allows the analysis and reporting to go far beyond what RMF postprocessors provide.
The graphical capabilities enable a quick determination of hotspots and tuning opportunities and RMF Magic has modelling capabilities for the sizing of the link capacity for synchronous and asynchronous Remote Copy projects, based on a month of your workload data, and computes accurate estimates for the write MB/s down to the device level.

Performance Data Consolidation
RMF Magic provides performance reporting about your zOS Disk Subsystems and Logical sub-systems with a disk-centric approach. It greatly simplifies the analysis of the I/O configuration and I/O performance, even when Disk Subsystems are shared between multiple sysplexes, as it automatically determines the I/O configuration from your RMF data, showing the relationship between the Disk sub-system serial numbers, SSID, LCUs, device numbers and device types. Thus, removing the need to manually consolidate printed reports.
For instance you can define a group such as ‘response time for PPRC volumes’ and quickly determine the hotspots and tuning opportunities.

Remote Copy Projects
RMF Magic has modelling capabilities for the sizing of the link capacity for synchronous and asynchronous Remote Copy projects, based on a month of your workload data. It computes accurate estimates for the write MByte/s down to the device level and takes into account workload peaks. It also determines the required bandwidth for each workload, making it possible to make a cost assessment at a workload level. Accurate sizing of the write activity is important when planning your data mirroring, and because telecommunication links are a very significant part of the total cost of a disaster recovery solution.

Storage Planning
Not only does RMF Magic allow you to report performance statistics by storage group, allowing you to verify if Service Level Agreements are met, it also provides you with all the information needed for your zSeries storage planning, in particular with respect to new performance enhancing technologies such as FICON, Parallel Access Volumes and migration to large logical volumes (3390-54).

Capacity Planning
RMF Magic’s graphical capabilities provide insight in the I/O load distribution enabling a quick determination of the hotspots and tuning opportunities in your disk configuration. Based on user-defined criteria, RMF Magic will automatically identify peaks within the analysis period. On top of that, the graphical reports will make all peaks and anomalies stand out immediately, which allows you to explain peak behaviour correctly and calculate accurate growth rate predictions.

Control Facilities
RMF Magic features easy to use graphical interfaces. The Run Control Centre facilitates the preparation and submission of batch processes when running these on a PC The Report Control Centre allows for interactive data analysis and is designed to keep the analyst focused on the problem at hand rather than on the technicalities of writing data base queries or controlling Excel.
RMF Magic can run as a batch job on z/OS or a windows PC and is interactive, the final analysis takes place on a PC, interfacing with MS Excel. All the charts can be exported to PowerPoint at the touch of a button, providing an easy way to document a study.
